Using Quality Fats in the Kitchen
A quick note on dietary fats: using quality fats are super important to our health!
Certain oils have high amounts of Omega-6 fatty acids that overwhelmingly out number the Omega-3 fatty acids.
This can result in inflammation in the body so it's important to be mindful of the type of oils we using in the kitchen.
Here are the healthy oils I recommend:
Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Organic Avocado Oil (great for frying)
Organic Coconut Oil
Organic Almond Oil
Here's my super simple Roasted Cauliflower with Turmeric Recipe:
Preheat your oven to 375-400 degrees F.
Chop up a head of cauliflower into little bite-size pieces.
Drizzle some healthy oil over the cauliflower.
Toss the mix until the cauliflower is evenly coated with the oil.
Add a light sprinkle of salt.
Add turmeric- don't be shy! I recommend using a blend of a smoked turmeric and a classic turmeric. The mix should look pretty orange
Add Trader Joe's 21 Seasoning Salute.
Grind some fresh black pepper over the cauliflower.
Toss the mix again to make sure all of the spices are evenly distributed.
Oil your baking pan.
Pour your seasoned cauliflower mix into your oiled pan.
Place your pan in the oven for about 20 minutes but be sure to keep an eye on it.
Enjoy!
Tip: Change up of the entire vibe of the dish by experimenting with different spices/ flavors. Try adding chipotle peppers and seasoning to get a Mexican cuisine-inspired version of this roasted cauliflower dish.
Healing Powers of Turmeric + Black Pepper
Curcumin is the most powerful active ingredient found in turmeric.
It's benefits include anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties.
Unfortunately, it has the bad reputation of being very poorly absorbed into the body.
The black pepper helps the body absorb the curcumin in the turmeric.
This incredible combination of turmeric and black pepper have been shown to:
Reduce Pain
Help with Digestion
Fight Inflammation
Stop the growth of and kill off cancerous cells
